Carluke antisocial behaviour summit

CARLUKE people suffering at the hands of rowdy neighbours will soon get the chance to vent their anger.

For local councillors and police officers are staging a four-hour seminar aimed at combating antisocial behaviour.

The Lifestyles Centre in Carnwath Road is the venue from 3.30pm to 7.30pm next Thursday, May 27, for a summit allowing residents to air their views about local services and discuss any issues concerning them.

The Carluke Lifestyles seminar is one of seven Positive Communities events being held in South Lanarkshire during May and June.

Annette Finnan, the council's housing and technical resources chief, said: "We are keen to involve communities and gain their views on antisocial behaviour.

"We hope to meet as many local groups and local residents as possible at this year's event in Carluke."

Clydesdale Chief Inspector Colin Murphy stressed that Strathclyde Police now had more officers than ever patrolling the streets.

He claimed that, in each of the past two years, that had helped contribute towards a 30 per cent reduction in youth disorder.

But the chief inspector believes there is no room for complacency.

He said: "The police can only be successful and meaningful if we know what people's problems are and what scale of resources we need.

"It is all about consultation. The wider we consult, particularly with people suffering distress at the hands of antisocial behaviour, the better the service we can provide."
