A WOMAN decided against presents for her 90th birthday and instead encouraged family and friends to give a donation to a hospital which helped save her life nearly 80 years ago!

Carluke woman Jan Frame celebrated her birthday in style with a meal at the Cornhill Hotel in Biggar surrounded by 35 close family and friends.

However, all of this would never have taken place if it had not been for the staff at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow who, in 1936, saved Jan’s life after she was diagnosed with osteomyelitis, an infection which attacks bones, and septicemia.

Jan said: “I was in Yorkhill for nine months and was in there on and off until I was 14.

“I lost a part of my right leg so I’ve got one shorter than the other but it could have been a lot worse;

“I’ve still been able to drive and do all the things I wanted thanks to the staff at the hospital.”
