Carluke bus service attacked by arthritis sufferer

AN arthritis sufferer struggled desperately to make half mile walks to and from her Glenafeoch Road home when stops were axed on Carluke’s 47A bus service.

Frances Jardine (64), endures daily misery when commuting to town centre supermarkets Aldi and Tesco on the much-reduced service run by Stuarts Coaches.

“Having to walk so far every time I need to do my shopping is a terrible inconvenience for me,” Frances said.

“I have no feeling in my left leg since going into hospital for an operation two years ago.

“I knew if I stepped on something uneven when out walking long distances on the roads around here then I could very easily fall over.”

Frances’s transport nightmare came to a head last week when she ran short of breath and sustained a badly swollen leg after negotiating the trek back from a bus stop half a mile from her home.

So she is now avoiding the walks altogether by reluctantly spending £7.50 a day on taxi fares.
