Carluke chef competing in pastry Olympics

Carluke chef Andrew Mackay will represent Scotland at the culinary Olympics in Erfurt in Germany this week.

Andrew, 25, a former Carluke High School pupil, is head pastry chef at the Trump Turnberry in South Ayrshire.

“The standard will be very high but I’m looking forward to representing Turnberry and Scotland,” he said.

“This is the first time I’ve taken part in a competition of this level, and it’s a great place to start.”

Joining a team of talented Chef’s from around Scotland, Andrew and the team will take on 28 different countries in a series of both hot kitchen and cold static display events.

Having studied for three years at Motherwell College, Andrew graduated in City & Guild

Professional Cookery, before moving onto specialise in confectionary and patisserie. He

has spent the last three years at the Ayrshire resort before being promoted to Head Pastry

Chef earlier this year.
