Carluke Christmas lights switch on 2010

CARLUKE Gala Queen Courtney Baxter was joined by Santa Claus and South Lanarkshire Provost Russell Clearie as she switched on Carluke's Christmas lights in front of a huge crowd in Rankin Gait.

The switch-on was hosted by Real Radio DJ Paul Harper who helped put the crowd in the festive mood with a few Christmas classics.

The crowd who braved the bitter cold was also treated to a performance by Pop Goes Christmas, who sang a selection of Abba songs until the big switch-on just after 6pm.

It was a busy day for Queen Courtney as she had already turned on the Christmas lights in Law.

Mum Tracy and dad Gordon looked on. Tracy said: "She is really

happy and it brings her year as Queen to an end in a very nice way. It's a big night for all of us."
