Carluke Community Council hears from windfarm protesters

Protesters fighting a planning application to build two 400ft wind turbines in countryside barely 2km from Carluke have put forward their case against the proposal by Energy4All.

Speaking at Thursday night’s Carluke Community Council meeting, Stop Clyde Valley Windfarm campaigners outlined their opposition to the £8 million Cartland Muir development.

Protester Pam Fleming, of Cartland, said: “These huge turbines are too big, too close and too noisy. They will be as close as 550m to Kilncadzow and less than 1km from Cartland.

“Local people have been so concerned that our group staged a well-attended meeting at Kilncadzow Village Hall, which was so packed that there wasn’t even room to stand.

“The locals were asked if they were in favour of these wind turbines being built but not one hand went up in support.

“This is not a community project. The community is not behind it in any way, shape or form.”
