Carluke crime down as Lanark dubbed Cludesdale ‘heroin capital’

STRATHCLYDE Police now consider Lanark to be the ‘heroin capital’ of Clydesdale.

Just two years ago that dubious title did, in fact, belong to Carluke – the town at that time boasting the area’s highest concentration of heroin users.

Inspector Scott Jones, speaking at Carluke Community Council meeting, said: “We believe that there are several suppliers of heroin in Lanark and throughout the Clydesdale area.

Work is always ongoing to gather intelligence to enable us to take robust action against these individuals.

“Heroin users in the Clydesdale area stick out like a sore thumb against the vast majority of law-abiding citizens.

“Cocaine usage is also high throughout Scotland but it is no longer the drug of choice for only the wealthy. We find many individuals from many walks of life abusing this drug.”
