Carluke driven ‘plane crazy’ on Friday and Saturday

GAZETTE readers were driven ‘plane crazy’ – when they were kept awake into the early hours of Friday and Saturday by a low flying aeroplane in Carluke.

Social media site Twitter was awash with comments from frustrated locals, who clearly struggled to get a wink of sleep as the plane roared around in circles.

The Gazette made inquries about the incidents with Police Scotland, and Lanark PC David Wesencraft told us that the plane had been doing wildlife survey work on behalf of National Air Traffic Services (NATS).

Yet the police explanation for the source of the planes appeared to be ‘pie in the sky’ by Tuesday, when the Gazette contacted NATS to see if it could verify Police Scotland’s version of the noisy events of Carluke last weekend.

A NATS spokesman told us: “I’ve been looking into this for you and I can confirm that NATS was not operating any aircraft in the area on those dates.”
