The authorities acted quickly after being contacted by driver Marshall Carr (38), of Burn Road, Carluke, who said he’d been dazzled by two flashes of the camera near the BP Filling Station in Stewart Street.

Marshall said: “The speed camera went off twice and totally blinded me.

“I couldn’t see for at least four or five seconds – I nearly drove into the back of another car.”

And it wasn’t long before Strathclyde Safety Camera Partnership (SSCP) – the body responsible for Strathclyde’s speed cameras – acted to disable the camera.

SSCP spokesman Neil Macgillivray said: “These cameras are all Home Office approved, although the technology used for them goes all the way back to the 1990s.

“If there is a problem with the one in Carluke, we’ll get it fixed as soon as possible.”

The camera is expected to be operational “very soon” – you have been warned!
