Carluke Gala Day 2015 Slideshow

A superb procession was followed by the crowning of Gala Queen Caoimhe Rea in Market Square by Crowning Lady Barbara Mackie.

Thankfully, the rain held off for the crowning ceremony and hundreds looked on as the new Gala Queen was crowned in front of family and friends.

With over 20 entries in this year’s procession, there was always going to be plenty of colour in Carluke – despite the overcast conditions.

Crawforddyke Primary’s Rootin Tootin Rodeo, complete with mechanical bull, was one of many highlights, alongside its nursery entry Tee Pee Terrors.

And it was a day for heroes as Braidwood Primary delivered Super Heroes Save The Planet – with everyone from Superman and Batman in town.

Aileen Hogg, of Braidwood Primary’s Parent Council, said: “The kids didn’t need any encouragement to dress up as super heroes; it was their idea.

“It took a lot of time to get it together but it was definitely worth the effort.”

Kirkton Primary’s entry, Kirk-a-lot, was a throwback to the days of Camelot with Kings, Queens, jesters and knights while Kirkton Toddlers Candyland float was certainly very sweet.

One of the Kirk-a-lot organisers, Catriona McDonald, said: “Our former head teacher Moira Meiklejohn suggested the theme and we thought it was a great idea.

“It’s been one of our most popular entries. We had over 100 children taking part which is unbelievable for a small school like ours.”

There were also plenty of stars from the big and small screen with Riverside Nursery’s Despicable Me, complete with minions, Carluke Lifestyles’ Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Carluke Opera’s Hairspray and the Great High Mill Primary Bake-Off.

And there was plenty of clowning around at the gala thanks to the Tippy Toe Tots and their circus themed entry.

The Calvary Carluke Christian Fellowship honoured Noah’s Ark as a whole host of animals marched two by two through the streets of Carluke.

The sounds of Samba were heard throughout the town as St Athanasius Primary kids enjoyed a Rio carnival theme.

Other highlights included Dominoes by Carluke Primary, Carluke Lifestyles Toddlers Pirates and Princesses and Boogie Nights by Carluke Young Farmers.
