Carluke girl Caitlin heads for South America

CARLUKE girl Caitlin McEwan has been selected for a challenging expedition to an impoverished part of Bolivia in which she’ll help refurbish orphanages and improve water supplies to local villagers.

The fifth year Carluke High pupil is one of 26 youngsters from the school recently picked to go on a 28-day trip, also including a visit to Peru, in summer 2013.

“I can’t wait to go on this trip,” said Caitlin (16).

“It will be the trip of a lifetime for our group of S4 and S5 students and should be amazing in all aspects.

“This is the last such expedition we’ll get to go on before starting at uni, and it gives us a great chance to explore the world.

“We will plan the full itinerary soon and it will be great to find out exactly what we’ll be doing.”

Other aims of the trip, supported by Outlook Expeditions, include the students building walkways and accommodation in the form of huts, developing leadership and teamwork skills through working in challenging and rewarding situations and learning to live independently and overcome personal fears.
