Carluke heart patient Scott stars in scar exhibition

Scott Burrell is one of eight CHD sufferers who have been transformed into works of art by fashion and portrait photographer Kirsty Anderson for the Scarred For Life exhibition at Kelvingrove Central Hall until March 15.

The 36-year-old had an artificial pulmonary valve fitted in September last year after living with heart problems from the age of three.

Development scientist Scott said: “When I was three my mum noticed I was out of breath a lot so she took me to the doctor and I had surgery to remove a heart valve at the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh.

“Over the years I sort of forgot about it, as the only reminder I had of having CHD was yearly check-ups, all of which I passed without the need for further treatment.

“But last year I was told that my heart was working twice as hard and was growing so I had to get an artificial valve put in.

“In the end I was very lucky as the doctors actually discovered three tiny holes in my heart so I got an extra bonus and got those repaired as well!”
