Carluke man hits out over lack of gritting

AN angry Carluke resident has hit out at South Lanarkshire Council, claiming that the local authority has recently left his home street ‘like an ice rink’ by failing to put salt down on the pavements there.

Orion Way resident George Nicol (65), alleged that the quiet cul-de-sac was the only street in Carluke which hadn’t been gritted by council workers in recent weeks.

“I think that the way the council is handling this situation is absolutely disgraceful,” George said.

“Every one of the residents who stays around here is an old age pensioner yet, when it is snowy or frosty, there are no council vans here to clear the pavements.

“What is going to happen if one of the local residents around here falls and breaks a leg?”
