Carluke off-sales has licence suspended

A Carluke off-sales has had its drinks licence suspended after complaints about children as young as 13 years old obtaining booze from it.

The two-month freezing of the licence of Loch Park Stores on Lanark Road was accompanied by a ban without time limit on it making home deliveries of drink after police claimed this was now the Carluke teenagers’ `method of choice’ for illegally getting their hands on alcohol.

The Clydesdale Area Licensing Board came to its decision after a four-hour long special meeting to consider a request from the head of the area’s police, Chief Inspector Colin Murphy, that it review the shop’s licence because of his fears of it being a source of drink to youngsters.

The police cited two alleged incidents to back its case for a review.
