There are also photographs of sports teams, workers, clubs and societies giving a fascinating insight into what life was like in days gone by.

Society chairwoman Christine Warren said: "We wanted to make this book because we have quite an extensive collection from our archives and wanted to make good use of it.

"It was the perfect time to release it because, in the last few years,

Carluke has changed so much with historical buildings either closing or being demolished."
