Carluke Primrose Orchestral Flutes win 15th successive Scottish Championship

Carluke Primrose Orchestral Flutes set a new record at the weekend by winning their 15th sucessive Scottish Championship.

The contest, staged by the Scottish Amateur Flute Band Association, returned to Carluke Lifestyles Centre.

It started on a sad note, however, with a tribute to the late James ‘Junior’ Kier, the association president, who had died the previous Saturday.

For the competition, the ensembles had to play an own choice hymn tune – Carluke chose Gabriel’s Oboe – followed by the set test piece ‘Les Preludes’ by Franz Liszt and arranged by J Graham.
