Carluke woman Betty Kerr’s coffee morning raises £3000 for the Beatson Hospital

ONCE again Carluke’s Betty Kerr opened up her home for her annual charity day - and raised thousands of pounds in the process.

On Saturday Betty and her daughter Elizabeth Bain opened up her home for the annual event - in aid of the Beatson Hospital in memory of her late husband Jim.

A lovely selection of teas and home-baking were served and there was an opportunity then to take part in the raffle, or the guess the birthday competition for the chance to win a beautiful pram.

There was also the biggest tombola tent so far, with hundreds of prizes, many which had been donated to the family from various people and groups.

To date Betty (77) and Elizabeth (44) have raised almost £20,000 over the years and with the many friends arriving to partake of the day’s event Betty estimates £1600 was raised on Saturday.

With donations continuing to roll in, it is estimated that as much £3000 will have been raised.

It is certainly a big job to organise such a big event but Betty, who herself was suffering from torn ligaments in her leg, was quick to pay tribute to the hearty band of volunteers who give her a helping hand on the day.
