Carluke’s Jon Talbot cancels honeymoon to cycle for charity

CHARITY bike rider Jon Talbot cancelled his honeymoon – so he could attempt to help raise £250,000 by cycling 760 miles in just nine days!

Jon (39), of Glen Isla Drive, Carluke, prepared for his charity ride by cycling 40 miles the day before marrying sweetheart Joanna at Perthshire’s Hilton Hotel on August 12.

And the energetic groom then rode a further 25 miles a day later.

Jon said: “It’s a good job that I’ve got a very understanding wife. She has been very supportive of what I’ve been doing.

“Although I’m dedicated to the training, I didn’t get away with cycling on the morning of the wedding!”

John will be among a party of 50 Scottish Gas workmates hoping to ride from Uddingston to Windsor between September 1 and September 9 in a bid to raise money for the brain unit at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

He has enjoyed cycling at weekends for years but is training up to 100 miles a day, five days a week in preparation for his nine-day endurance test which began yesterday.
