Carluke’s Market Square could have permanent memorial to Lanarkshire Yeomanry

Carluke could soon have as many war memorials as it famously has Victoria Cross winners – three.

Representatives from Carluke Development Trust, Carluke Rotary Club and the town’s Heritage Society have joined forces with members of the Lanarkshire Yeomanry Group to look into the suggestion of a permanent memorial to the county’s own regiment in Market Place.

The location would certainly be an apt one as Carluke Victoria Cross hero, Thomas Caldwell, was a trooper with Lanarkshire Yeomanry.

It would also mean that there would be a triangle of memorials in Market Square with the existing war memorial and the memorial honouring the town’s three VC winners already taking pride of place there.
