That is certainly the opinion of a member of Lanark Community Council who made a recent trip to dump rubbish – only to find herself hopelessly lost in the countryside outside Carluke.
“There’s not a single sign on the main road into Carluke to tell you where the place is,” complained Eleanor McLean to her council’s latest meeting, asking it to take up the matter with South Lanarkshire Council.

Although her complaint was questioned as being irrelevant for a Lanark council meeting, Eleanor stuck to her guns, pointing out that the facility, known officially as the Carluke Civic Amenity Site in the Castehill Industrial Estate, was meant to serve the whole of Clydesdale.
She claimed that, anyone not from Carluke would be hard-pressed locating it.
