Carnwath farmer Andrew Cairns gets £100,000 grant to help meet growing demand for sheep milk in cheese-making

A CARNWATH farmer is receiving a grant of £100,000 to help meet the growing demand for sheep milk in cheese-making.

Andrew Cairns is a late entrant into farming – although his mother’s family farmed at Biggar – but for the last couple of years he has been involved in Walston Braehead Farm and is now the major shareholder in the business.

“I did civil engineering for 15 years, then the opportunity arose to take on this farm, which I did,” said Andrew, who is now 35.
