Carstairs Arms Hotel facing demolition

Carstairs residents may be left with nowhere to go for a drink. Permission has already been given for the conversion of the Village Inn into flats, and now the hotel faces demolition.

John Bale from Wilsontown wants to knock down the century-old building, the Carstairs Arms Hotel, and build three terraced houses in its place.

In his plans, lodged with South Lanarkshire Council, he explains that the hotel, public house and restaurant closed three and a half years ago, due to low demand, and the business has not traded since.
