Cat charity benefits to the tune of £20,000

The Pets’n’Vets Family, a network of neighbourhood veterinary practices with surgeries around Glasgow and surrounding areas, has donated more than £20,000 worth of services to the Catflap charity in Newton Mearns.

Services include veterinary time, treatment, vaccinations, microchips and anti-parasite treatment to stray and unwanted cats.

This is during a three year programme in conjunction with Catflap, the independent, Glasgow-based charity dedicated to cat welfare.

Established to find suitable permanent homes for homeless cats, Catflap reunites lost cats with their owners.

It also provides short-term emergency accommodation for cats in need and assists with veterinary expenses in cases of genuine hardship.

Catflap was set up and run since 1997 by cat lover Sheila Frater, who sadly died last year.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: “We’ve been so fortunate to have this relationship with Pets & Vets.

“It would take quite some fundraising efforts to reach that figure and we have sent hundreds of cats to their Crookfur branch.”

Ivor Lough, a partner in The Pets’n’Vets Family, said: “Including discounts in medical and surgical care, we have donated in excess of £20,000 worth of vaccinations, treatment, micro-chipping and flea and worming treatment to Catflap during the course of this scheme – having originally set ourselves a budget cap of £5000.

“We hope to continue our great relationship with Catflap and continue to offer our direct discount to all treatments and medications for Catflap cats.

“Catflap is a great local charity, with which we are proud to partner in its worthy endeavours.

“Catflap offers cats in need of a home a second chance.

“It ensures the good health of these animals, many of which would not otherwise have been able to gain veterinary treatment or the medication necessary to ensure a healthy and happy life.
