Celebrating the Rouken Glen Walkers

A CHRISTMAS winter wander takes place in Rouken Glen Park this week — with hard-earned hot drinks and mince pies for afterwards.

Walkers can choose from four options to suit all abilities at the Wednesday (December 11) event, aimed at celebrating the success of the Rouken Glen Walkers.

The group has met weekly for more than 10 years, led y four volunteers, and regularly sees crowds of up 100 walkers.

Organisers are hoping that older people will come along on the Christmas walk and discover the benefits of the great outdoors for themselves.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, East Renfrewshire convener for social work and health, said: “Walking is ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels woh want to be more active - and joining a walking group is a great way to socialise and meet new people.”

Environment convener Vincent Waters added: “What better way to celebrate walking and the success of the Rouken Glen Walkers group than to spend a morning strolling in the park?”

The event starts at 9.30am, with registration at the main entrance.
