Celebrities pit-stop in Lanark during Eye Cycle

AS UNUSUAL sights go on Clydesdale's roads, the one of an actor, celebrity jeweller and a top scientist all pedalling away furiously on their bikes through the Upperward countryside must be pretty unique.

This week this unlikely trio and their friends said a special thank you to the people of Clydesdale for their hospitality and support in their short stay in our area, a passing point in a journey literally from one end of the country to the other in a great cause.

They were taking part in the gruelling Eye Cycle challenge from Land's End to John O'Groats in aid of eye research charity Fight for Sight.

Actor Lloyd Hutchison, celebrity jewellery designer Alex Monroe and

scientist John Greenwood began their challenge at the very tip of the English Atlantic coast and, 13 days later, duly arrived, exhausted but happy at Scotland's final frontier at the North Sea.

They stopped off briefly in Lanark for a well-earned overnight rest at the Cartland Bridge Hotel and to spread the charity's message locally.

The aim of the marathon ride was to raise money for vital research into the prevention and treatment of sight loss.
