Charity week is set to focus on burden carried by women

A couple in Lenzie have urged others to raise cash for this year’s Christian Aid Week after doing their bit to ‘share the load’.

Raymond and Lorna Hall recently took part in the charity’s Erskine Bridge Cross sponsored walk, raising cash and awareness of the plight of women in developing countries.

They include people like Loko, from Ethiopia, who is the focus of Christian Aid Week 2015 (May 10-16).

Loko walks for eight back-breaking hours several times a week to collect wood to sell so that her children won’t starve.

Lorna said: “This is an opportunity to share the load with women in Ethiopia, and others around the world who are struggling to find the means to survive.”

She added: “Everyone here in Lenzie and across Scotland who gets involved can help make a difference where it is needed most.”

Raymond added: “I would definitely encourage others to take part.

“Together we can all make the load a little lighter for women in Ethiopia, and the poorest people across the world.”
