Child neglect arrest made in Cumbernauld

Police have confirmed that a 33-year-old woman has been arrested in Cumbernauld amidst claims that two children were victims of neglect.

Officers were called to Torbrex Road at 1pm on Monday after two children under six were seen in the street.

Horrified neighbours raised concerns that the youngsters were in a state of undress as they roamed aimlessly around the area.

Police swooped and traced the individual responsible for their care, after speaking to eyewitnesses.

Police say that that the woman involved was under the influence of either drink or drugs an d and failed to show any concern for the wellbeing of the two children involved.

She was then arrested.

The woman has been charged in relation to Section 12 of the Children and Young Persons Act and was taken into custody for a court appearance.
