The new iniative, which is the brainchild of the 86th Boys’ Brigade Company based at the church, believe it’s the first of its kind in Glasgow and East Renfrewshire.

The ‘Back Door’ shop, located at the rear of the Memorial Halls, is stacked with a range of items from clothes, to nursery kit, bikes, games and toys to cribs, curtains and the list goes on.

The aim is to provide pre-loved, good quality equipment for children from birth to age 10 at very reasonable prices.

The one-stop-shop will be manned by volunteers, including the boys from the 86th Company, and all funds raised will be disbursed to local childrens’ groups.

To start with the store will be open on Saturdays, but it is hoped that this will increase to daily hours, depending on needs.

Kirsten Oswald MP will officially open the shop tomorrow at 12 noon, and all are welcome to attend, with a free bouncy castle, kids games and hopefully a fire engine will also be there.

Stephen Bennett, the Brigade Captain said: “It’s anew venture for us, but one we feel will benefit the community and works in tandem with the Brigade’s teachings.”
