Choir is on song for Malawi

An East Renfrewshire teacher will lead his choir into song in support of a schools charity mission to Africa.

James Drennan from St Luke’s High in Barrhead and Aria will perform in the town later this month.

Funds will go to help pupils going to Malawi later this year from schools across East Renfrewshire.

Musician Mr Drennan is the choir’s leader and accompanist and also a depute head at St Luke’s.

The performance will take place in St John’s church hall in Barrhead on Monday, September 21, at 7.30pm.

Tickets priced £8 are available from St Luke’s high, or from St John’s.

Meanwhile, students from another Glasgow school are doing their bit to help kids across the world to get aneducation.

Pupils in St Vincent’s Primary, Thornliebank, took part in a global campaign to ‘Send My Friend To School’ which highlights that more than 58 million children across the world have no access to education.

They invited Glasgow south MP Stewart McDonald to a school assembly recently to present him with a petition to be handed over to Prime Minister David Cameron with a request that he raise the matter at a summit of world leaders in New York later this month.

The MP told The Extra: “I am proud to represent such a proactive and positive group of global citizens.”
