Christmas baby was born in Carluke lay-by

Expectant mum Claire Davies and her husband Leigh returned to Lanark for Christmas because they wanted their child to be born in Scotland.

But they didn’t expect him to be born in a lay-by off Airdrie Road, just outside Carluke.

Little Ruairidh could not wait until the family reached Wishaw General.

There was an unscheduled stop in a petrol station to allow Claire to be transferred from the family car to an ambulance and then an emergency stop in the lay-by minutes later for Ruairidh to be born.
