Christmas lights under threat as council bids to save cash

CUMBERNAULD could be dramatically stripped of its town centre Christmas decorations as part of cutbacks at North Lanarkshire Council.

Councillors have been told that the removal of all decorations would save 300,000 per year and that this may have to be incorporated into a brutal package of cuts.

Any groups or individuals who object to the lack of festive decorations have also been given another option - pay for them yourselves.
