Church reflects on the past 80 years

Williamwood Parish Church is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year with an extensive programme of events throughout 2017.

The highlight will be an anniversary service on Sunday, June 25, where the guest speaker will be the Very Rev Dr James Simpson, formerly of Dornoch Cathedral and author of ‘Holy Wit’ and his father was the first organist at Williamwood Church.

After the service, everyone will be invited to take part in a picnic in the grounds of the church for a fish ’n’ chips lunch supplied by Popeye the local fish and chip shop.

The Church is welcoming everyone to come along to this service and join in the celebrations. It doesn’t matter whether you are a member, a former member, a local resident or someone who would like to pop in to see and hear about the last 80 years in Williamwood.

The Church’s story began between 1935 and 1937 when the site was purchased and Williamwood Parish Church was built. On June 28, 1937 there was a Service of Dedication and this was followed by the first service of congregational worship on Sunday, July 4 1937.

From then until now Williamwood has seen many changes and has expanded to be the Church we know now.

To share the Church’s vast history, all the organisations involved have been asked to research the Willamwood area in ‘The Past, The Present and The Future’ with a view to providing a table top display in church for the anniversary service.
