CITA set to contest each local ward

POLITICAL candidates from established parties will face opposition in ALL of Cumbernauld’s wards at the council elections next May.

The News has learned that the Cumbernauld Independent Councillors’ Association will contest each local ward in Cumbernauld - in a move that has the potential to upset the political apple cart.

At present, CICA has just one councillor at North Lanarkshire Council’s headquarters in Motherwell - veteran former Scottish Nationalist Gordon Murray.

Members now think they could up that figure by arguing that existing Labour and Scottish Nationalist MSPs are not properly representing the town’s interests at NLC.

CICA spokesman Nick Dekker confirmed:“We will put one candidate up in each Ward. We have one definite and several possibles at present, but since the Elections are still 7 months away we are mainly meeting to keep up with the ongoing events in Cumbernauld - which are many.’’

Mr Dekker would not be drawn on the names in the frame but said these would be revealed in the new year.

Locals who want to hear more are being asked to attend the latest meeting of CICA which will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at the hall in the Wynd, Cumbernauld Village.

The meeting starts at 8pm. All welcome.
