Several cases across Scotland in recent weeks have seen unsolicited calls asking for bank details to help clear people’s debts and offer other financial advice.

Clydesdale Citizens Advice Bureau manager Allison James said: “We NEVER makes unsolicited calls to anyone asking for their personal and bank details and nor would any reputable organisation.

“If you get such a call, it is a scam.

“It’s very sad that some people want to con their fellow citizens out of their money and particularly sad that they would do so by using the hard-won reputation of the CAB service.”
