City brand unveiled

GLASGOW’S council leader, councillor Gordon Matheson, unveiled the new city brand recently — People Make Glasgow.

It is hoped that the new brand will encourage tourism and make the city even more widely known than it is.

People Make Glasgow is the result of a two-month survey asking the city’s population — and further afield — what they thought made the city great.

More than 1,500 people across 42 countries responded on the council’s website, which recorded 7,000 visits.

Added to this, the conversation reached more than 400,000 Facebook and Twitter users around the globe.

Councillor Matheson said: “Glasgow is a warm, welcoming and genuinely friendly city, because the people are.

“We’re an ambitious, inventive and entrepreneurial city because the people are.

“And we’re a down-to-earth, to-the-point, no-nonsense city, because the people are.

“We work well together, we get things done and we make things happen.

“People Make Glasgow reflects the Glaswegian character.

“It’s bold, friendly, confident and it evokes a real sense of pride.”

Councillor Matheson claimed that it was the city’s population that were at the heart of the brand, saying “we have created something which represents a truly distinctive identity for the city”.
