Clarkston beat cop is believed to have fallen

Enquiries into injuries sustained by a Clarkston PC on a stag night in St Andrews have been completed by Police Scotland.

These have now concluded that his injuries were as a result of an accident and there are no suspicious circumstances.

Constable Gerard Kelly, (26), who works as a beat cop in Clarkston, had been out in St Andrews when he was discovered in a cobbled alleyway with seriuous head and back injuries.

Originally social media was rife with rumours that the officer had been savagely assaulted and beaten, however a spokesman for the police dismissed the rumours saying: “Police in Fife have carried out extensive inquiries after a 26-year-old man was found with serious injuries in St Andrews last weekend.

The incident occurred in Rose Lane at around 2am on Sunday. The man was taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, where he continues to be treated.

Officers have now concluded that this incident was as a result of an accident and there are no suspicious circumstances.”

It is thought that the officer may have fallen from a height or been knocked down by a vehicle.
