The Living Wage Accreditation Scheme is run by the Poverty Alliance which recently accredited its 500th employer in Scotland.

John discussed a number of issues with NVT Group director Hamish Fraser including the benefits of living wage accreditation, modern apprenticeships and NVT’s work at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

He said: “Employers committing to pay the living wage is essential if we are to end the blight of poverty in our society.

“Many of the 500 living wage accredited businesses in Scotland are small, making significant contributions to local economies. Encouraging more employers to pay their staff the living wage is vital.

“I was delighted to visit NVT Group and hear about the benefits of being an accredited living wage employer, as well as some of the great work the group do.

“The work around the Commonwealth Games in 2014 for example was very impressive and I was particularly interested to hear about the NVT Group providing high quality Modern Apprenticeships.

“It is also encouraging seeing NVT, along with a number of other locally based companies, providing good quality employment and training opportunities in North Lanarkshire.”
