Clyde visit for Busby sports stars

PUPILS at Busby Primary were thrilled to welcome a particularly prickly guest to the school last week — Clyde, the Glasgow 2014 mascot.

The friendly thistle popped in for a surprise visit to coincide with a special masterclass set up by the school with a Commonwealth Games theme.

The scheme — organised by teacher Laura Kerr for P5-P7 children — allows pupils the chance to take part in Games sports, as well as encouraging them to write to the 2014 athletes to show their support.

The youngsters are even learning about CPR and basic first aid — and when Mrs Kerr posted on the 2014 Game On website about the great work Busby has been doing, Clyde couldn’t resist showing up to surprise the pupils.

As well as admiring all of Busby’s sports trophies and achievements, Clyde — who has only visited three schools in East Ren so far — also handed over a special plaque to head teacher Sharon Hunter in recognition of all that hard work, which will now take pride of place in the school.

She said: “We are delighted to be the first school in East Renfrewshire to receive the plaque and have all that hard work recognised.

“The children were thrilled the plaque was presented by Clyde.”
