Clydesdale horsewomen head for Kenya

A DEDICATED duo of horsewomen from Clydesdale are about to abandon their usual tranquil routes through our area’s rural backroads and woodland bridleways for a quite different sort of trek - one on foot through Africa’s dreaded Rift Valley.

When retired local dentist Jackie Mann and riding instructor Fiona Harrington throw their support behind something, they don’t do things by halves.

However, when they said they’d go to great lengths to help the Clydesdale Group of Riding for the Disabled, probably even they didn’t think they’d end up going as far as Kenya to raise money for this great cause.

Now they are getting ready to take part in the expedition to Kenya for a once-in-a lifetime experience, taking on a route with rather daunting placenames like Hell’s Gate Gorge along the way.

In other words, a quiet Sunday trot around the charity’s local Stanmore Stables base in Lanark this ain’t!
