Clydesdale loses out-of-hours doctor

CLYDESDALE is to lose its only doctor based here to cover urgent nighttime home call-outs throughout its vast rural area.

Instead, the nearest GP to deal with overnight home cases in our 510 square mile area will have to travel from Wishaw.

This cut in the weeknight service of the Out of Hours doctor service, based at Lanark’s Lockhart Hospital, was revealed to the Gazette this week in an anonymous `whistleblower’ message.

Its contents have now largely been confirmed by NHS Lanarkshire, which claims that the single doctor covering Clydesdale on Monday to Friday nights represents “an excess of capacity”. The post is to be cut on September 1.
