Clydesdale police offices to close to public?

THE Gazette understands that three of our four police stations in Clydesdale will soon no longer be open to the public.

The front counters at Carluke, Biggar and Lesmahagow stations are understood to be earmarked for closure in the New Year; only Lanark Police Station will allow the public direct, face-to-face contact with officers.

A source told us: “Police officers will still be based there at these stations but there will be no public service. This has been on the cards for a while; that’s the bottom line.

“I understand they have to make savings but it’s at the public expense. At the moment, people can walk into their local station and report something but they won’t take the time to go to Lanark.

Clydesdale is a massive area going all the way down to Leadhills and the only public office will be in Lanark.

“Because there will be no civilian workers, it means that police officers will be asked to fill the back office jobs; this is already happening.

“They can’t get rid of police officers so they will get rid of civilian workers to cut costs.”
