Clydesdale youngsters learn about life on the farm

Children from Abington, Crawfordjohn and Carstairs Primary Schools were joined by pupils from St Mary’s Primary in Lanark and St John’s Primary in Blackwood for the day.

The event was run in partnership with Douglas and Angus Estates and The Royal Highland Educational Trust.

Carstairs Primary teacher Jillian Guthrie said: “The pupils had a great time and had the opportunity to speak to the other pupils in the school about what they saw.

“We saw a sheepdog demonstration, a butter-making demonstration and they got a chance to speak to gamekeepers and dairy farmers.”

Over 150 pupils took part in the day, held at Newmains Home Farm.
