Coalburn Gala Day is still going strong

THE 75th anniversary Coalburn Gala Day celebrations on Saturday were attended by no fewer than 40 of the village’s past Gala Queens.

And – despite miserable wet weather during the crowning at the public park – 2012 Gala Queen Danniella Rossi, a P7 Coalburn pupil, still shone brightly.

“Danniella was absolutely fantastic as Gala Queen and performed her duties brilliantly,” said Gala President Claire Robinson.

“She looked absolutely beautiful and kept a smile on her face despite the horrendous wet weather.”

Danniella’s coronation was carried out by retiring Queen Sophie Meek.

A special cake-cutting ceremony to mark three quarters of a century of Coalburn Gala was performed by Danniella and 1939 Gala Queen Helen Scott.

“All the former Gala Queens really enjoyed their day,” Claire said.

“Despite the weather, the day was perfect.”
