Coalburn man dies in car crash

A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD man, from the Coalburn area, died in a road crash on the outskirts of Lesmahagow on Friday evening.

Lee Stewart, who was driving his Vauxhall Tigra along the northbound B7078 Carlisle Road at around 8pm, was travelling with three others when it appears he lost control of the car and hit a garden wall on the bend, known as Parks Corner.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 19-year-old male front seat passenger was taken to Wishaw General and then transferred to the Glasgow Southern General where he is in a critical condition.

The 19-year-old male rear passenger was airlifted to Glasgow Southern General in a serious condition and a 19-year-old female rear passenger was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where she is said to be stable. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
