Coalburn world record breakers

HUNDREDS of Clydesdale volunteers this week nursed aching feet, legs and even saddle sores.

But all 886 of them could console themselves with the fact that they are now World Record-breakers.

From Friday at 5pm, and the subsequent 24 hours, a relay of riders pedalled furiously on static bicycles at Coalburn in an attempt on the record for the greatest amount of electricity generated by bikepower within a 24 hour period.

And, although they just missed breaking the main target record, the weekend's voluntary riders did smash the record for the most juice generated in a constant pedalling session.

Organiser and project manager James Kane said: "Although we did not achieve the main record, it was anything but a failure.

"We were amazed and inspired by the effort so many put into this attempt and cannot thank them enough for supporting us."
