Community hub plans take a step closer

Originally the plans for the Lennoxtown Community Hub were for a bigger facility on the village’s Main Street, but they were scaled back to deliver the project within the approved budget while maintaining the range services.

Two information events were held at the Campsie Memorial Hall to allow residents to find out more about what is planned for the new facility at an early stage in the design process.

Following a presentation from the design team, community members were able to ask questions on what services they can expect to be available when the Hub opens and give their thoughts on the design. Draft floor plans of the building, which will be built on Main Street, were also available for viewing.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “It was encouraging to see many local people coming along to the sessions to find out what revised plans we have for Lennoxtown and to hear what they have to say.

“We will listen to the feedback from the local community and it will play an important part in informing the new Hub design.

“We will return to Lennoxtown in the near future to address some of the questions and issues raised by community members and to keep people up-dated as to how the proposals are progressing.”

The network of community hubs, including Lennoxtown, is a key aspect of the Council’s programme to continue to deliver customer services locally throughout East Dunbartonshire.

The first hub opened at William Patrick Library, in Kirkintilloch, back in August 2012.
