Concern over possible Clyde move

When the announcement was made last December, Mr Alexander said the move would allow the Bully Wee more control over their future. The problem with the current set-up is that the club are tenants at the Cumbernauld facility, and cannot generate income from its use, aside from match day tickets.

But there has been no real timescale put forward for the move, other than a statement that “the club will work towards an exit over an extended period.”

However the lack of information since then prompted Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Jamie Hepburn to meet with Mr Alexander.

Mr Hepburn said: “I met John Alexander at Broadwood Stadium for a general discussion on a number of issues relating to the club. I’d like to thank himfor a full and frank explanation of the current situation at Clyde.”

He added: “The club wishes to stay in the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area if an appropriate site can be found for them to develop.

“Following my meeting with the chairman I have very real concerns about Clyde remaining in the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area.

“I believe Clyde Football Club is an asset that the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth community cannot afford to lose.

“After my discussions with Mr Alexander I have written to North Lanarkshire Council seeking clarification on what action the council is taking to facilitate the retention of Clyde FC in the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area, by helping the club establish where an alternative site may be available to them.”
