Connor raises funds for his 'Granny May'

Connor Glass was helping his dad Gary dispose of a car at a yard in East Kilbride when they came across a box of unused rubber wristbands in the boot of a vehicle.

The 11-year-old was struck with inspiration and decided he might be able to sell them and raise some money for the hospice which cared for long-time family friend May Henderson prior to her death earlier this year.

Connor has been busy going around neighbours, friends and businesses in Viewpark and the Summerlee area of Coatbridge where his dad works selling the bands and also persuaded his mum Kirsty to take some into the nursery in Blantyre where she works.

So far he has raised over £180 and is targeting a total of £250 to say thanks to the hospice for the care they gave to Mrs Henderson who he considered to be like a grandparent.

Kirsty said: “Connor is a wee entrepreneur so when he found the box of wristbands he thought that he could do something with them in order to help St Andrew’s Hospice in memory of his Granny May as they constantly need to raise funds in order to provide care.

“The hospice were wonderful with May and did all they could to ensure her stay was as comfortable as possible, nothing was too much trouble, and I know her family will join me in saying we can’t thank the staff enough.

“We are very proud of Connor’s efforts and I hope with a little bit of publicity he is able to achieve his £250 target.”

Kirsty is also organising a race night and disco in Thorniewood Social Club on Friday, September 30, at 7.30pm.
