Conor McSherry's mum raises £7000 in his memory

THE mother of tragic teenager Conor McSherry is keeping his memory alive by raising over £7,000 for national road safety charity Brake.

Maureen McSherry, together with friends Veronica Gordon, Julie Tennant and Sharon Graham raised the huge total by walking the West Highland Way as well as hosting a race night in St Athanasius Hall.

Popular Conor (16) died when he was struck by a mini bus while working on his milk round.

Now with 7,073 raised Maureen and her friends have been invited to the House of Commons on January 19 for a reception in recognition on their efforts.

Midwife Maureen said: "Brake invited us down for a reception, which is hosted by Transport Minister Barry Sherrman because we have been one of the top fundraisers this year.

"We are all going down together so I'm sure it will be a fantastic day.

"I think Conor would have been really proud of our achievements in raising so much money.

"My son Derek and daughter Eilidh are very proud as well."
