Consultation called into question

Now that the 12-week consultation on the proposed 100 houses is complete, community group Waterfoot Action describe it as ‘nothing more than a box-ticking exercise’.

Spokesman John McCourt said: “The developers staged just one exhibition, where only the briefest and most rudimentary information was provided.

“Online plans were difficult to find on Gladman’s website. The proposals are extremely sketchy.”

West of Scotland MSP Stewart Maxwell believes Gladman Developments need to follow through on their commitment to consult with the community.

He said: “Given the concerns that have been expressed in the community regarding Gladman’s level of public engagement, I would encourage them to extend their consultation and ensure that they take on board the views of local residents.”

A survey by Jackson Carlaw MSP had 293 returned, with only one in support.

He told The Extra: “If the consultation is to hold any water they should withdraw this unwanted and unwarranted application which does not even comply with the Local Development Plan.”

Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh agrees the proposals put forward are “sketchy at best”.

He said: “From my own survey to residents, which had a huge response, it is clear the overwhelming view of Waterfoot is against this proposal.

“The developers should accept that and halt any planning application.”
